The IUOE Local 406 Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) is a charitable 501(c)(3) developed to assist Local 406 operating engineer members and staff who have suffered a loss from a disaster.
Applications to join the DRF are available at all Local 406 Union Offices or you can request an application by mail by calling the Main Office at 504-241-1311
The cost of membership is $25 per year.
You can also elect to deduct the fee annually from your Vacation Fund check. If you wish to take advantage of this option, call for a DRF Voluntary Deduction Form.
Only members of the DRF are eligible for assistance from the fund.
Disaster Relief Fund Grants
Disaster relief grants may be awarded for the purpose of providing cash for temporary emergency expenses for IUOE Local 406 Disaster Relief Fund members who suffer financial hardship in federally declared disaster areas or in cases of natural or man-made disasters including floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, landslides, or fires, as determined by the DRF Trustees (Trustees).
Any disbursement from the fund shall only be made to DRF members suffering a catastrophic loss with resulting financial hardship following such a disaster.
The maximum amount of any grant shall be $1000 for any single disaster occurrence.
The applicant must be a current DRF member at the time the disaster occurred. (DRF members are active members / staff of IUOE Local 406 who have met their requirements under their present collective bargaining agreement and have paid their annual BRF member fee.)
The member must reside in the area which has been declared a disaster area by the U.S. or State government or by a majority of the Trustees.
The member’s eligibility shall be based solely on need as determined by a majority of the Trustees.
A member is only eligible for assistance if substantial damage has been incurred to his/her primary residence because of the disaster. The address must coincide with current address on file with Local 406.
Relief Fund Grant Application Process
All applications for relief must be submitted within 60 days of the disaster using the IUOE Local 406 DRF Application Form. The form must be completed and necessary proof shall accompany the application.

All Applications shall be made through IUOE Local 406 DRF. The Trustees shall verify the accuracy of the member’s claim for a disaster relief grant.

Relief Fund Grant Disbursement Process
Upon receipt of the completed application, and after declaration by the Trustees of a disaster and verification of the member’s need, the Chairman shall issue a grant to the member. Relief fund grant checks shallbe distributed to individual members in the most direct and expeditious manner taking into account the instructions of the individual member involved.
